Well-Being in Nature

Join me for a walk in the woods and learn how nature can help you find more peace, inner calm and clarity of mind.

The physical and mental health benefits of spending time outdoors is well documented. Being close to nature just feels good – we instinctively know this, which is why our leisure time is so often filled with walks in the park or a day out to the countryside. As we fill our lungs with fresh air and slow down a little, we feel content and relaxed.

Studies have shown that spending time in nature, particularly in woodland, reduces stress, lowers anxiety and slows our heart rate, whilst increasing productivity, concentration and creative skills. Trees are intrinsically linked to our physical health, of course they produce the oxygen we breathe but they also release chemicals which boost our immune system and increase our endorphins.

Feeling sad? Then go hug a tree!

So we know that nature is good for us but how often do we take the time to truly slow down and appreciate the natural world around us. Nature provides so many opportunities to practice being more mindful – creating little pockets of time in your day where you can relax completely, letting go of any stress in order to refocus and recharge. On my walks I aim to show you how studying, observing and learning about the wonders of nature, can benefit both your own health and that of the planet.

“Inspiring nature connections through mindful woodland experiences”

What can you expect on a Well-being Walk?

We are fortunate here in Yorkshire to have many beautiful spaces to explore nature and my walks are intended as an introduction to how enhancing your connection with the earth can lead to more peace and less stress in your daily life. Anyone can take a walk in the woods, but all too often our minds are distracted by stressful events, pets, kids or just ruminating over the “to-do list” and whatever comes next in your day… we find it hard to find the headspace to truly relax.

On my walks the pace is slow, taking the time to notice everything around us; conversation is reduced, creating the space to listen, to breathe and to feel; we stop and sit and observe, focusing on our physical senses and the environment around us; I will draw your attention to some of my own observations – interesting plants, tree formations or bird song – and answer any questions you have about the things you see. We may incorporate a sitting meditation but the walk itself is a moving meditation with each day offering a different experience.

Walks last between an hour and a half to two hours over moderate terrain. Generally speaking be prepared for some mud and steep hills, however if you have any accessibility issues there are places we can walk with level footpaths so just let me know in advance. I will offer suggestions for creative and mindful ways to interact with the surroundings, so come with an open mind and ready to release your inner child!

One-to-one walks can be catered to your individual needs or interests which will be discussed at the time of booking.

“Re-wild your life ~ Re-connect with the Earth”

Our own health and well-being is intrinsically linked to the health of the planet and the environments we surround ourselves in. When we realise that in protecting our environment we are inevitably protecting ourselves, we start to see ourselves as part of nature rather than something separate or superior. I believe that many of our cultural and mental challenges can be overcome by observing and learning from nature… and when we appreciate just how great and amazing our earth is we are naturally more inclined to look after it.

Why walk with me?
