Following 3 years living off-grid in Cambridgeshire, we’re walking back to Yorkshire to start raising funds towards opening a non-profit micro-pub and community hub.
The idea occurred to us last year, to combine our background in hospitality and arts with a desire to help those around us. A blending of craft beer, creative arts and live music, with profits from the commercial activities used to support a range of community services… and we want to do it back in our beloved Yorkshire!
We intend to create an all-inclusive community space that provides:
- social connection and a warm welcome for all.
- free activities, refreshments and a warm meal once a week for anyone who needs it.
- a range of activities focused on supporting mental health and wellbeing.
- a ‘no questions asked’ policy so that everyone can access the facilities without stigma or judgement.
- flexibility to meet the varying needs of the local community as the hub evolves.
Over recent years we’ve experienced first-hand the need for services such as this within rural villages, where residents are often isolated and unable to access the resources of nearby towns/cities. We’ve seen how simple everyday conversations can make a real difference to someone else’s life and how great things can happen when people come together with a shared vision for change.
We know there’s a need for this all across the UK right now… but we’re returning to Huddersfield in West Yorkshire because it’s our home and where we believe we can make the most impact.
So how are we’re going to do it…
Bimbling: To walk with no particular purpose or haste!
Well we have lots of ideas in the pipeline for fundraising, selling merch, applying for grants… but we’re going to kickstart our plans in Spring 2026 with a sponsored walk from Cambridgeshire back to Yorkshire. We will be ‘bimbling’ our way northwards over the course of several months, seeking out other social enterprises that cross our path, sharing their stories and keeping a video diary of our travels for entertainment value!!
